Lorenz Mühlbauer

Lorenz Mühlbauer, son of Johann Georg Mühlbauer and Anna Maria Dahlinger, was born on January 18, 1851 in Dossenheim, Baden, Germany. He died sometime after 1900 but before 1910, in the United States, in Newark, New Jersey. Lorenz, like his father and brothers, was a harness maker.

On January 29, 1871, in Newark, New Jersey, Lorenz married Bertha Schenk. Bertha was born about 1854 in New Jersey, and died after 1886 and before 1900. The marriage record did not list Bertha's parents' names.

Most of the family records from this marriage and later list the family surname as Milbauer.

Lorenz and Bertha had the following known children, all born in Newark, New Jersey:

  1. female Milbauer (1872-??)
  2. Mary Anna Milbauer (1878-??)
  3. Frances Milbauer (1879-??)
  4. Heinrich (Henry) Milbauer (1883-aft. 1930)
  5. Freidrich Ludwig (Louis) Milbauer (1886-??)

There was no name on the birth record for the unnamed child listed above. This child does not appear in the 1880 US census. Either it was a stillborn birth or the child died as an infant. A death record has not yet been found.

In the 1900 US Federal census, a 14 year old male child named Louis was referenced as a son to Lorenz, but no Friedrich was listed. This Louis is quite probably Friedrich, using an American version of his middle name, Ludwig.

In 1853, Lorenz, along with his parents and brothers, departed from Rotterdam on the ship Charles, and immigrated to the United States. They arrived in New York on May 11, 1853, and eventually (before the 1860 US census) settled in Newark, New Jersey.
