John Lawson Johnston

John Lawson Johnston, son of William Johnston and Jane McWilliam, was born on September 28, 1839 in Roslin, Parish of Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland. He died on November 24, 1900 in Cannes, France.

On June 29, 1871 in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, John married Elizabeth Elliot Lawson, who was born about 1851 in Edinburgh.

John and Elizabeth had the following children:

  2. George Lawson Johnston (1873-1943)
  3. William John Johnston (1874-??)

  4. Novah Elisabeth Johnston (1875-??)

  5. Edward Allison Johnston (1877-??)

John's first three children were born in Edinburgh, Scotland.

John was the inventor of Bovril. Several of his children (his daughter Novah and son Edward) were born in Quebec, Canada, where he started his Bovril factory production before moving back to London in 1884.
