Peter Johnson

Peter Johnson, son of Peter Johnson and Elizabeth Murray, was born on February 17, 1896 in New York City, New York. He died on December 25, 1978 in Edison, New Jersey.

On October 18, 1919, in Bloomfield, NJ, Peter married Isabelle Johnstone (also known as Isabelle Dorothy Johnstone), daughter of Alexander R. V. Johnstone and Elizabeth Wiggins (born as Louisa Wiegand). Isabelle was born on May 14, 1898, in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and died on September 2, 1978 in Edison, New Jersey.

Peter and Isabelle had three children, two of which survived.

Peter served in World War I in France. He sailed from the U.S. on August 24, 1918 and arrived back April 16, 1919. His character given on discharge was "Excellent". He held the rank of Private in Company F, 312th Engineers. He enlisted on June 24, 1918 in Hackensack, NJ for the "period of the emergency", and was honorably discharged on April 21, 1919 "by reason of remobilization".

He was baptised at the Church of the Holy Apostles (Lutheran) in New York on May 10, 1896. His Godfather was Francis Savindowsky, and the officiating clergyman was Thomas McClintock (curate).

Peter worked for the New York & Washington RPO (Rail Post Office), and retired at the end of November 1955, after more than 34 years of service with the "Rank" of PTC.
